Coming up with ideas on what to post is never very easy. It has taken me a while to figure out a system of coming up with consistent posts but now, I don't seem to ever have a lack of ideas (just coming up with time is the thing).

Here are my top 6 methods on ensuring you always have post ideas when you need to post.

  1. Social Holidays: Every month there are 100s of social media holidays that are a gold mine of posting ideas. They work well for three reasons reason: 1) they give you some ideas on what to post. 2) They follow trends (which the algorithms LOVE). 3) They show off the personality of your business. For example: On paper airplane day I had my clients race paper airplanes and took a video of it. It made them seem like a fun bunch of dental professionals who are able to have some friendly competition. Keep reading for more information about Social Holidays.

  2. Create Consistent Social Media Opportunities: I've created specific events when I know I will have something to post on social media. Every birthday, there is a happy birthday post. Every time the office gets new art work (Once every 10 weeks) we have something to post. We do #SmallBusinessSaturdays and post our favourite small businesses in the area (p.s. some people follow us just so they can be featured and/or because we've featured them or their friends- we've gain a TON of good will for this).

  3. Make a List on your Phone: Ever come up with an idea and then forget about it as soon as you go to post? Well, keep a list on your phone. A dedicated spot on something that you are consistently using has been the most successful for me. When you need a new idea, check your phone. I even create ideas, create the posts, then save them for later (batch creating saves a bunch of time).

  4. Brainstorm Sessions: Have you ever noticed that you come up with great ideas when you are in a specific place? Like the shower or while driving? The shower is my place! I keep a notebook for myself and will often come out of the shower, run out dripping wet and write down my ideas. The awesome trick here is to actually put yourself in those positions a little bit more often and have your phone or notebook ready for when you are done (don't do this while in the shower or while driving please!) and write down your ideas before you forget them. When I run out of ideas, I hit the shower! Really it's like a super power spot for me! What's your spot? Go there! Get your millions of ideas out!

  5. List your services: Think about your business. What kind of services do you do? Create a post, NOT selling, with your services. For example, for a dental office, you post a video of a crown being milled. If you are a photographer who does bedroom shoots, get one up on social media. You don't have to sell, just a video or reel is great, it's enough to show everyone that you do this. Make a list of your services and create a post for each of them. Make sure you space them out so it does not come across as selling.

  6. Check your analytics: What has done well in the past? What are your best performing posts? Analyze them. Why do you think they did well? What time did you post them? What day? What time of year? What kind of content? Was it entertaining? Was it educational? Was it funny? Was it serious? What's in the photo? Post more of what is working. Also, can you re-purpose that great content? What can you do to make it new but still use that great stuff?

  7. BONUS!!! and most importantly - EDUCATE: This is probably the most important part of posting content. Posting things that your audience will find valuable is the #1 growth strategy at the moment. Educate your audience on your products/services/field. Make tutorials on how to use your stuff. If you are a photographer, make posts on how to chose an outfit. If you are a therapist, make a post on how to chose the right therapist. These kinds of posts build trust and make your people come back for more.

There you have it! 6 ways to always have something to post!
